berries-best-healthiest-food-on-earthSuper-foods are nutritional powerhouses. They help build bones, improve eyesight, keep our minds sharp as a tack and they prevent chronic diseases.

But their contributions don’t stop there. Many super-foods can also help you lose weight and stay slim.

Here’s a list of some of the more commonly found and enjoyed super-foods that will also help you tackle your weight loss issues. (This is just a short list…there are so many more)!

Black beans: A cup of this super food packs a whopping 15 grams of satisfying protein without containing any saturated fat that other protein sources like red meat have.

Oats: This superfood is rich in fiber helping us to feel full throughout the day. Just ½ cup packs 4.6 grams of “resistant starch” a healthy carb that actually boosts metabolism and burns fat.

Lean Protein: Salmon is a great source of lean protein and helps to keep you full without adding unnecessary fat. Salmon is also full of MUFA’s. Research showed that dieters that ate a MUFA-rich diet lost on average around 9 pounds while an average of 6 pounds was gained by their low-fat counterparts.

Blueberries: This super-food has gained popularity because of its anti-aging effects but will only set you back around 80 calories for a one cup serving. It also provides lots of healthy fiber at 4 grams per cup.

Brown rice: This is the perfect substitute for white rice which offers little nutrition. Brown rice is heartier and fiber rich and a low-energy density food…it’s heavy and it fills you up but it is low in calories. One half cup of brown rice contains 1.7 grams of “resistant starch.” (A healthy that boost metabolism and burns fat).

Pears: This is an interesting super-food that most people would not think about. However, studies have shown that women who ate 3 pears daily consumed fewer calories than those that did not. In order to experience the same results you’ll need to leave the skin on your pears as that is where the filling fiber is.

Wine: Although alcohol…especially excess alcohol is a diet killer, wine contains resveratrol and anti-oxidant that stops fat storage. Drinking a glass of wine boosts your calories burn for as long as 90 minutes and studies have shown that moderate wine drinkers experience less belly fat and have slimmer waists.

Grapefruit: This tangy super-food contains a compound that can lower insulin a fat storing hormone and lead to weight loss. If you change nothing else about your diet, eating ½ a grapefruit before each meal may actually help you to lose up to a pound a week. Add to all this the fact that it is 90% water, it fills you up so you eat less. It is also a good source of protein…something many people are not even aware of.

Almonds: All nuts are good sources of nutrition but almonds in particular can help you to shed pounds. One study in which the participants were asked to add a daily helping of almonds to their low-cal diet actually lost more weight than those who followed the same exact diet but snacked on car-heavy snacks like crackers.

Green tea: The antioxidants found in green tea can actually up your fat burn and calorie burn. It will hydrate you like water does and consuming 5 cups a day could help you to lose twice as much weight
