  1. Start your morning right; eat healthy in the morning and set the stage for the day and rev your metabolism up.
  2. Focus on nutrient dense food and stay away from counting calories. You need to make sure the calories you are eating are nutritious ones otherwise why bother?
  3. Leave the empty sugary liquid calories on the table. There is nothing that sugary drinks and soda are adding to your diet…even sweetened tea should be eliminated when trying to lose weight.
  4. Keep plenty of fresh produce readily available. Cleaned and cut ahead of time so that they are easy to grab when hunger strikes.
  5. Cut down on carbs. Refined carbohydrates such as cookies, candy, cake, muffins, scones, cupcakes, soda, syrups, and chips)…the list goes on and on. Opt for cereal that is high in fiber and low in carbs.
  6. Help trick your mind by using smaller dinner ware such as the plates and bowls you serve your food in. Downsizing the container makes the portions appear larger even though they are smaller.
  7. Enlist help. Get your family and friends involved and get their support. It’s hard to eat salad when everyone else at the dinner table is pigging out on mashed potatoes. You might be surprised how much help you’ll get if you ask and who knows, you might even have a positive effect on them.
  8. Don’t deprive yourself. Depriving yourself will not only frustrate the heck out of you it is only going to make you want it more. It serves no purpose. Allow yourself a small treat daily and reward yourself weekly for your hard effort.   9. Eat when you are hungry and eat more often. Keep healthy snacks around such as cut veggies and healthy nuts. Your body needs healthy fats.
  10. Lift weights. You need resistance training to kick that metabolism in and keep it humming. Get out those dead weights and turn them into “life weights”. You’ll lose weight, stroke your metabolism and feel euphoric! Get moving. You can’t expect to lose weight and keep it off by sitting still. You must be active and burning calories consistently.
  11. Keep your goals realistic but challenging. If you set goals that are unreachable you will be buried before you start. A healthy mental attitude must be sustained if you hope to stick to your diet plans. Keep your mind as healthy as your diet.
  12. Keep a diet diary. This helps many people stay on track. When you know you must write it down you become more accountable for what you put in your mouth. It gives you the awareness of what your daily food consumption is and for some people this can be an eye opener!
